Common Space
Within recent years, Penn State Panhellenic chapters have started utilizing on-campus classrooms or rented off-campus spaces to host chapter meetings, events, recruitment, initiation, and other chapter-sponsored activities. Recent feedback from chapter leadership highlights a need and desire for consistent common space, as on-campus classrooms and rented off-campus spaces take away from the community and sisterhood that is central to Penn State Panhellenic sorority life.
To address the lack of viable space, the Panhellenic Council formed a committee of motivated individuals to engage in consistent conversations around the future of Panhellenic sorority space and to begin exploring different options for common space. The committee meets monthly to engage in discussion and conduct research and benchmarking, including Panhellenic sorority common space at institutions across the country, available real estate throughout the State College community, short-term and long-term goals for sorority space, chapter storage options, and other relevant topics.
The committee is made up of individuals from the following stakeholder groups:
-
Panhellenic community leaders
-
Local chapter advisors/alumnae representatives
-
Inter/national organization representatives
-
Panhellenic Council Executive Board officers
-
Penn State Student Affairs
-
Penn State Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life staff
